Meyerton

​Meyerton is a small town located approximately 18 kilometers north of Vereeniging in the Gauteng province of South Africa. Serving as the administrative center of the Midvaal Local Municipality, Meyerton lies within the Sedibeng District Municipality.

History

Established in 1891, Meyerton was named after Johannes Petrus Meyer, a field cornet and member of the Transvaal Volksraad. The town acquired municipal status in 1961. Since 2001, it has served as the administrative center for the Midvaal Local Municipality, leading to various developmental projects aimed at enhancing the area's infrastructure and housing.

Demographics

According to the 2011 Census, Meyerton covers an area of 180.24 square kilometers and has a population of 55,283 residents. The demographic composition is diverse, with 48.6% White, 49.3% Black African, 1.2% Coloured, and 0.5% Indian/Asian residents. The predominant languages spoken are Afrikaans (42.2%), followed by Sotho (23.2%), and English (11.9%). ​
