Afrikaans is the predominant first language, spoken by 64% of the population, followed by Sesotho (16.4%) and English (9%).
Industrial Significance
Sasolburg is renowned for its substantial industrial activities, primarily centered around Sasol's coal-to-liquid refinery, which converts coal into liquid fuels and chemicals. This refinery is one of only two operational coal-derived oil refineries globally. The town forms part of the Vaal Triangle, alongside Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging, contributing significantly to the region's industrial output.​

Adjacent to Sasolburg is the township of Zamdela, primarily inhabited by Black African communities, with Sesotho being the predominant language.
