Afrikaans is the predominant first language, spoken by 64% of the population, followed by Sesotho (16.4%) and English (9%).
Industrial Significance
Sasolburg is renowned for its substantial industrial activities, primarily centered around Sasol's coal-to-liquid refinery, which converts coal into liquid fuels and chemicals. This refinery is one of only two operational coal-derived oil refineries globally. The town forms part of the Vaal Triangle, alongside Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging, contributing significantly to the region's industrial output.
Township of Zamdela
Adjacent to Sasolburg is the township of Zamdela, primarily inhabited by Black African communities, with Sesotho being the predominant language.
